Gyeongbokgung (palace)
Built in the fourth year of King Taejo's reign in 1395, Gyeongbokgung is the most representative palace of the joseon Dynasty. The grandeur and imposing beauty of the palace is well represented by Geunjeongjeon, the main hall, Gyeongheoru, an impressive two-story pavilion where the king held a banquet for his subjects, and jeong- jeon, the king's office where he addressed national affairs.

Changdeokgung (palace)
Changdeokgung is one of the five most representative palaces of the joseon Dynasty and the best preserved among the five. Its rear garden is laced with various types of pavilions and thousands of plants and trees, reflecting the characteristics of Korean traditional gardens which emphasize harmony with nature.

Jogyesa (temple)
Jogyesa is the headquarters of the Korean Buddhist Order Jog ye, the largest Buddhist sect in Korea, and houses the Order's central administra- tive organizations. Buddhist shrines including Daeungjeon and Deokwang- jeon, are beautifully blended with a 500-year-old pine tree and a 400-year- old pagoda tree in the vicinity.

Am sa Prehistoric Settlement Site
This site is the largest Neolithic habita- tion site ever found in Korea. It fea- tures the Prehistoric Lifestyle Exhibition Hall and "Dugout Huts" where visitors are allowed to get inside and take a glimpse of the lifestyle during the Neolithic Age.

Mt Namsan and vicinity
Namsan serves as a beautiful center- piece and focal point of the city of Seoul. On its lower slopes features a lush botanical garden, public park and an octagonal pavilion, as well as the Architectural Museum and five traditional Korean houses designated as
" Namsan Traditional Korean Village" . On the summit Seoul Tower soars above the city, from where visitors can enjoy a three-dimensional view of Seoul in all directions or dine at a revolving restaurant.

Lotte World
Lotte World is an amusement park complex with unique indoor and outdoor entertainment facilities. It is composed of Lotte World Adventure, a gigantic indoor amusement park, Magic Island, an outdoor lakeside amusement park and Lotte World Folk Museum featuring miniature replicas of ancient palaces. There are also indoor sports facilities for skating, swimming and bowling.

National Folk Museum
The extensive museum features traditional artifacts, focusing on folk cultural artifacts of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910). It is devoted to the collection, research, and preservation of folk artifacts. The museum also serves as a forum for social education on folk culture as it hosts diverse exhibitions and classes.
Insa-dong Insa-dong is the ideal place to relish Korean arts and craftsmanship. Large and small galleries, curio shops, traditional Korean paper shops, paper hangers shops. handicraft shops, ceramics shops and shops selling artrelated items pack both sides of the streets and numerous side alleys. Along the street are various traditional restaurants and fascinating Korean teahouses.

Jeondeungsa (temple)
This is an ancient temple believed to have been built during the Three Kingdoms period 1,600 years ago. It is regarded as one of the 31 leading Buddhist temples in the country. Daeungjeon (main hall) decorated with beautiful sculptures, colorful paintings and patterns called Dancheong, as well as the uniquely-styled Beomjong (Buddhist temple bell) attract the attention of numerous tourists.

Incheon Dohobucheongsa and Incheon Hyanggyo
Incheon Dohobucheongsa is a local magistrate's office during the joseon Dynasty, while Hyanggyo is an old Confucian school. Designed to help people better understand traditional artifacts and learn institutions and systems of the joseon Dynasty, the village has installed lifelike dolls inside the buildings to recreate the lifestyle of the joseon Dynasty.

Hwadojin Park
Originally built as a fortress to prepare for the opening of Incheon Port, Hwadojin was a venue where Korea signed the Amity and Trade Treaty with the United States, Britain and Germany in 1882. The exhibition hall constructed adjacent to the indoor well of the fortress exhibits a number of relics of the time, serving as a precious historical sanctuary of Incheon which has fewer historical exhibition halls.

jayu (Freedom) Park
This is the country's first Western-style park. In April, the park is ablaze with cherry blossoms. At the top of the park stands the Statue of General MacArthur who successfully led the famous Incheon Landing Operation during the Korean War. The views from the summit, overlooking Incheon Harbor and Wolmido Island, are breathtaking.

Wolmido Street of Culture
Entertainment facilities along the waterfront streets and art performances at an amphitheater offer great fun and excitement for visitors. The main street is packed with various gain prices. The resort is also famous for its seawater bathhouse.

China Town
This town was first established when China's Qing Dynasty established a consulate in Incheon, following the opening of Jemulpo Port in 1883. It was once a flourishing commercial centers where silk, herbal medicines and celadons were traded between Korea and China. It is still popular for its excellent authentic Chinese cuisine offered at several Chinese restaurants in the town. Vigorous development work is underway as it has been designated as a special tourist lone.

Hwaseong (fortress)
It is the most prominent and most perfect fortress constructed during the Joseon Dynasty, combining the advan- tages of stone and mud fortresses. Registered on the list of UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage in 1997, it has earned a reputation as one of the most scientifically designed fortresses in the world.

Yongjusa (temple)
IKing Jeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty built the temple to pacify the soul of his father, Prince Janghyeon. Invalu- able cultural assets in the temple include a bronze bell of the Goryeo Dynasty (A.D.918-1392) and an altar portrait of Buddha painted by Kim Hong-do, one of the greatest painters of the period.

Evertand Amusement Park
Everland is the lth largest theme park in the world. It consists of a zoo, Festival World featuring snow" sledding facilities, Caribbean Bay, the largest four- season water park, Speed Way featuring auto racing, and Four Seasons Garden, which presents a seasonal flower festival.
Korean Folk Village
Korean Folk Village recreates various cultural themes from the late Joseon Dynasty, including traditional regional - Korean houses, government buildings, marketplaces, watermills and brassware workshops, all completely staffed by actors and artisans in full costume. It provides visitors a glimps of the traditional lifestyle of the Korean people of that era. The village is often used as the setting for historical TV dramas, serving as a multi-purpose cultural site.

Woncheon Amusement Park
The amusement park full of natural resources houses two parks and a lush forest. Under construction are recreational facilities, including a campsite, training facilities designed to strengthen both the body and the mind, and cable car facilities.

Daedeok Valley
Comparable to Silicon Valley in California and Tsukuba in japan, Daedeok Valley in Daejeon is the cradle of the nation's state-of-the-art science and technology. Daedeok Valley houses Expo Science Park, the National Science Museum, Currency Museum and KAIS:r (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology), demonstrat- ing that Daejeon is the mecca of the nation's science education and research.

Expo Science Park
The park was built as a science theme park on a site of some 56 hectares for the 1993 Daejeon Expo. Since then, it has served as a recreational area for the citizens. The park features Hanbit Tower and exhibition halls with inter- esting themes.

Yuseong Hot Springs
A famous attraction not to be missed by tourists visiting Daejeon. Major minerals contained in the hot water originating 200 m down the surface include calcium, potassium, sulfate, carbonic acid, silicic acid and bicarbonate. These hot springs are known to be effective in treating skin dis- eases and neuralgia. Since it was designated as the first 'Special Tourist District' in the country in August 1994, the area has evolved into one of the nation's best hot springs resort, offering 100 accommodation facilities including 12 tourist hotels.

Gyeonggijeon (shrine)
Gyeonggijeon is an old shrine built to honor the portrait of King Vi Taejo the great, founder of the joseon Dynasty. Visitors can experience ancient history unfolding right before their eyes like a panorama as they walk along the tran- quil path near the building.

Pungnammun (gate)
Pungnammun designated as Treasure No.308 is the symbol of Jeonju. Built in 1398 during the reign of King Gongyang of the Goryeo Dynasty, it was initially the southern gate of Jeonju Fortress.

Jeondong Cathedral
Jeondong Cathedral designated as His- toric Site NO.288 was built as a blend of two architectural styles; Byzantine and Romanesque, and is regarded as one of the most beautiful churches in Korea. Since its foundation, this Catholic Church has served as the spiritual pillar of the community and its influence has expanded over the years.

Pan-Asia Paper Museum
The Pan-Asia Paper Museum recreates the history of paper making in Jeonju, known as the home of paper produc- tion in the nation. The museum serves as a living educational site, featuring the paper culture of the past and the present through diverse paper-related displays. Exhibits also include the informations on modern paper industry, which relies on advanced technology.

Stone Pagoda in Mireuksaji
The Stone Pagoda in Mireuksaji (temple site) in Iksan City near Jeonju City is Korea's first stone pagoda, built during the reign of King Mu of the Baekjae Kingdom (600-641). The pagoda is highly valued as it illustrates the transition from wooden pagodas to stone pagodas. Originally, the structure had nine stories, but only six stories have survived to the present.

Mt Mudeungsan
Mudeungsan stands in the center of Gwangju, where its thick forests offer rest and relaxation to the citizens of Gwangju. Rising 1,187 meters above sea level, it is famous for its beautiful landscape and fresh air.

Soswoewon (garden)
Soswoewon is a representative garden of the mid-Joseon Dynasty. Streams run down between the jagged rocks, eventually flowing into the pond. Set in harmony with the surrounding lush pine forests, the garden is reminiscent of a serene Oriental painting.

Unjusa (temple)
According to the legend, Buddhist monk named Doseonguksa Oate Silla period) built Unjusa, building one thousand Buddhas and stone pagodas over night. Surrounded by thick forests, the various-sized stone Buddha images and pagodas create a mysterious atmosphere.

May 18 Cemetely
The cemetery was built in honor of those who sacrificed their lives in May 1980, during the resistance against the military dictatorship. This site is a symbol of Gwangju citizens' spirit of justice.

Gwangju National Museum
Located north of downtown Gwangju, the museum houses artifacts excavated from a Chinese commercial vessel found off the coast of Sinan in 1976. Also in the museum are artifacts from prehistoric Gwangju, relics of the Baekje royal family, dating from 18 B.C. to A.D. 660. It also features other ancient artifacts, paintings and art works.

Damyang Bamboo Museum
The only museum in the world portraying bamboo products. It houses around 1,150 ancient and modern bamboo goods from the Damyang area as well as other countries around the world. There is also a gift shop inside the museum, selling beautifully crafted bamboo artifacts.

Tourist Attractions Daegu - Leading Fashions City in Beautiful Enviroment

Oaegu Hyanggyo (Confudan educational institution)
Daegu Hyanggyo, a public educational institution established during the joseon period, preserves the memorial tablets of renowned Confucian scholars including Confucius himself. This site was used not only as an institution for teaching Confucianism, but also as a center for scholarly research for local Confucian scholars. At present, Hyanggyo is a tourist attraction, especially for foreign visitors, providing various educational events, including classes on Chinese characters and Korean traditional manners. It also hosts a reenactment of the traditional wedding ceremony in order to preserve the traditional culture of Korea.

Bulrodong Tumulus
A total of 211 ancient tombs built around the fifth to sixth centries are concentrated here. Bulrodong Tumulus, located at the entrance of the road leading up to Mt. Palgongsan, is designated as Historic Site NO.262 by the government. This assemblage of old tombs from the Gaya Kingdom and Three-Kingdoms are presumed to have been a collective cemetery for upper- class citizens of the period.

Andong Hahoe Village
Hahoe Village is famous for its distinctive Hahoe masks and the unique folk performance of the Byeolsin Gut (shaman ritual) mask dance. Hahoe Village is characterized by pristine surroundings and the traditions of the seonbi (aristocratic-official) which have been handed down for generations in this living village. Visitors can experience the unique traditional culture of Korea.

Daegu Yangnyeongsi
Yaknyeongsi (Oriental Herbal Medicine Market) was first opened during the Joseon period (1658) and thus boasts a 344-Year history. Along this 300 meter-Iong alley are found countless stores selling Oriental medicines and herb clinics, and a wholesale market for herbal medicinal ingredients. Yaknyeongsi continues that age-old tradition even today.

Dongseongno
Dongseongno. the busiest street in Daegu, is crowded with young people all year round. It is also crammed with shopping malls, hair salons, restaurants, cafes, bookstores and movie theaters. The street leads Daegu's fashion trends.


Mt. Palgongsan

With the 1,192m-high Birobong Peak at its cen- ter, Palgongsan, the guardian mountain of Daegu, stretch over 20 km from the east to the west. Nestled between the valleys of Palgongsan are scenic Buddhist temples such as Donghwasa, Pagyesa and Eunhaesa. These sites represent a thousand year-old tradition of preserving Buddhist cultural assets, making the mountain a sacred place for Buddhist culture.

Hyundai Heavy Industty Corporation
Ulsan Hyundai Heavy Industry Corporation, accounting for fifteen percent of the world's shipbuilding capacity, is the world leader in the shipbuilding industry. Besides shipbuilding, the company is engaged in marine equipment for offshore oil and gas exploration, production of various industrial equipment, and production of automated equipment including ship engines and industrial robots.

Stone Carvings of Cheonjeon-ri (National Treasure NO.147)
On the surface of the 9.7 meter-Iong, 2.7 meter-high spherical stones are carved geometrical patterns, animals and 300 ideographs. These engraved patterns record the ways the young people of the Silla period trained their bodies and minds in nature traveling mountains and rivers across the country.

Seoknamsa (temple)
of Mt Gajisan It is believed that a Buddhist monk named Doeuiguksa built this historic temple in about 824, during the Silla period. The 3O-building temple complex is a home to numerous precious cultural assets such as a stupa containing the sarira of Ven, a three-stoly stone pagoda and a huge Seoksugo (granite water container). Currently, the temple is often used as avenue for seminars for female Buddhist monks.

Petroglyphs of Bangudae
On the coast of Ulsan, the edge of cliff is strewn with odd-shaped rocks. This site is called Bangudae, which means hemisphere in Chinese characters, as it resembles a turtle. On the rocks stretching over a 99 square-meter area, carvings of various patterns of human figures such as hunters and fishermen, as well as animals such as deer, tigers, wild pigs and whales. The carvings depict distinctive features of evelyday lives of Korean ancestors who lived there from the mid-Neolithic to the early Iron Age.

Tongdosa (temple)
As one of the main temples of the Jog ye Order, Tongdosa, along with Haeinsa and songgwangsa, is a treasured temple housing the sarira remnants of shakyamuni Buddha. The endless panoramic view of valleys creates a dazzling backdrop of the temple. In addition, the Buddha statues within the temple and splendid art works displayed in the temple museum add to the great value of Tongdosa.

Chungryeolsa (memorial building)
Chungryeolsa was constructed in 1650 in honor of Song sang-heon, a magistrate of Pusan, who sacrificed his life defending the nation. Also, 88 memorial tablets of the fallen are preserved here.

UN Memorial Cemetery
Soldiers from sixteen countries who died during the Korean War rest in peace here. Some 2,300 soldiers from 11 countries are buried in the UN Memorial Cemetery, under the direct management of the United Nations.

Haeundae Beach
Boasting a 2 km-long stretch of white sand beach, Haeundae is surrounded by cherry trees and pine forests. The moonlight that harmonizes with the night view of the sea creates a spectacular scene, attracting visitors all year round. cl

Taejongdae (park)
Bizarre rock formations, lush forests and blue sea blend beautifully at Tae- jongdae park, presenting a breathtaking view to visitors. In addition, various amusement facilities and cruise boats operate at Taejongdae, making the park the perfect romantic destination for young couples. .

Gwangalli Beach
Around 300 seafood restaurants and cafes line the fine sand beach at Gwangalli. Young people, in particular, frequent Gwangalli Beach, which is located in the center of Pusan City. The beach is also crowded with hundreds of thousands of summer vacationers each year, who also enjoy the frequent outdoor performances held on the beach.

Mt Hallasan Hallasan
The highest mountain in the country 1,950 meters above sea level, is a dormant volcano with a lake crater at its summit. The entire area has been designated as a nature preservation area for the protection of rare species of plants and animals . inhabiting in the mountain park. During every season, Hallasan's scenery is spectacular, but it is especially known for its spring azalea blossoms.

Cheonjeyeon Falls
Cheonjeyeon, or "the sky emperor's pond," takes its name from a tradi- tional legend. According to the legend, seven nymphs guarding the sky emperor descended at night to bathe here. Cheonjeyeon Falls consist of three sets of falls. The first plummetS down a 22-meter high cliff, creating Cheonjeyeon Pond. Then the water from the pond runs into the sea via the second and third waterfalls.

Cheonjiyeon Falls
Cheonjiyeon means "a pond between the earth and the sky." Surrounded by green subtropical plants, the waterfall hurtles down the sea cliff, presenting a breathtaking view.

Jeongbang Falls
Jeongbang crashes directly on to the beach, creating an unforgettable and spectacular vista. The falls are located only five minutes by car from Seog-wipo.

Among the sea cliffs and swirling waves stand the dark-red hexagonal stone pillars, showing off the majesty and grandeur of nature.

Jungmun Resolt Complex

Jungmun Folk Museum
This theme museum features many aspects of the everyday life of the local fishermen. Houses with thatched roofs, traditional low fences and around 3,000 pieces of fishing and farming tools vividly describe the way of life in a typical small fishing village.
